The first part of this contribution is devoted to a critical analysis of Le libertà del lavoro, second volume of the series Quaderni dell società italiana di storia del lavoro, edited by Laura Cerasi. The second part focuses on a theme neglected in that volume: the need for a re-assessment of the end of Marxism as a condition for a fresh look at the nature and role of socio-economic conflict.
