La evolución del ambientalismo en Taiwán en los últimos treinta años responde en parte a los cambios políticos internos y en parte a los desafíos a la sociedad taiwanesa derivados de la implantación de nuevas industrias contaminantes que dañan el ambiente natural y a las personas. En este artículo (con base en el EJAtlas) se analizan los casos de la central nuclear de Lungmen (cerca de Taipéi), del depósito de residuos radiactivos de la isla de Lanyu, la resistencia contra la represa de Meinung y la defensa del valle de las Mariposas Amarillas, así como el intento fallido de colocar industrias petroquímicas en Kuokuang y los reclamos por daños a la salud humana causados por la empresa Radio Corporation of America.
The evolution of the environmental movement in Taiwan in the last thirty years is explained in part by changes in the internal politics of the island and in part as a response to the challenges faced by Taiwanese society because of new polluting industries that damage the natural environment and people. This article (based on the EJAtlas) analyzes conflicts on the Lungmen nuclear power plant (near Taipei), the nuclear waste deposit in Lanyu island, the resistance against the Meinung dam and the defence of the Yellow Butterfly Valley, the failed attempt to build a petrochemical industry in Kuokuang, and the claims for damages caused to human health by the factory of the Radio Corporation of America.
