During the first boom of the Italian web, between 1998 and 2001, State libraries paved the way for the creation of a cultural network in the Country. Twenty years after, the Central Institute for the Unified Catalogue of the Italian Libraries and Bibliographical Information (ICCU) of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC) has started a series of surveys to check the quality of their services and work for their harmonization. This first analysis, focused both on the quality and the content of the websites of the libraries, shows the important results achieved by State librarians during these years and anticipates future improvements for the users.
