Los recursos naturales son las riquezas existentes en forma natural en un territorio y sus plataformas y aguas continentales. Así, los recursos naturales tienen una marcada importancia en el fomento de la educación ambiental de las comunidades y, por tal razón, es importante establecer políticas, estrategias y acciones a favor de los recursos naturales y con los miembros de las comunidades, sobre todo, los estudiantes de colegios, institutos y universidades. Si no se comprende el concepto y la importancia de los recursos naturales, será muy dificil establecer una óptima educación ambiental en la población y, por consiguiente, asegurar el desarrollo sostenible.
