El Sistema Agroalimentario Mundial tiene una doble vertiente local y global, y está influido poderosamente por los diferentes entornos económico, político, social, científico y tecnológico y, en última instancia, ambiental, en cada uno de los cuales surgen desafíos y oportunidades que enfrentar. En este capítulo nos centraremos en el problema de la Seguridad Alimentaria, asunto que está siendo abordado por instituciones internacionales como la FAO (Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura), ejemplo de gobernanza internacional por el que los gobiernos de las naciones ceden parte de su papel a instituciones supranacionales apoyadas igualmente por organizaciones sociales y con respaldo de instituciones académicas.
The Global Agri-Food System has a dual local and global dimension, and is powerfully influenced by its various economic, political, social, scientific, and technological surroundings, as well as, ultimately, the environmental ambit, all of which involve challenges and opportunities that must be confronted.
In this chapter, we will focus on the problem of Food Security, an issue that is being addressed by international institutions such as the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations), an example of international governance through which national governments yield part of their role to supranational institutions that are, in turn, supported by social organisations and academic institutions.
