On the 13 July 2017, at the age of 87, Maarten Kluwer sadly passed away. It may not seem obvious to devote an editorial of the Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law to the memory of a publisher, because that is what Maarten Kluwer was. But in this case it is absolutely justified as Maarten was, as I will show, the person who was responsible for the origin of the Maastricht Journal, who supported the idea and who is therefore also responsible for its success
