  • Comparing what Mr. Giscard d'Estaing and Mr. Mitterrand said during their debate on 5 May 1981 reveals very different types of " enunciation ". This analysis concerns the pronouns, actantial structure, time and "modalisation" of their speech. It brings out the two opponents' presuppositions and clarifies their respective strategies of persuasion.
