In the answer to the question on Man, emotions have traditionally been considered either as antagonistic or submissive in comparison with reason, the higher faculty, being the concept of “rational animal” the very paradigm of this theory. Following the epistemological principles of interdisciplinarity and vertical integration, we intend to approach the inclusion of emotions and feelings in the neuroscientific speech and verify its compatibility with such an anthropological conception. The rejection of a dualistic theory based in the intersection of emotions, feelings and reason will lead us to the conclusion that feelings are a structural element of the human in its relation to consciousness.
Na resposta à pergunta pelo Homem, as emoções foram tradicionalmente pensadas segundo os registos ou de antagonismo ou de submissão relativamente à superior faculdade da razão, sendo o conceito de animal racional paradigmático desta teorização. Fazendo uso dos princípios epistemológicos da interdisciplinaridade e da integração vertical, propomo-nos atender à inclusão das emoções e dos sentimentos no discurso neurocientífico, e verificar a respectiva compatibilidade com a referida concepção antropológica. Arejeição da tese dualista, por via da intersecção entre emoções, sentimentos e razão, levar-nos-á a assumir os sentimentos, na sua relação com a consciência, como elemento estruturante do humano.
