Desde 1945, año en que el entonces obispo de León, Dr. D. Luis Almarcha, puso la primera piedra de lo que más tarde sería Caritas de León, hasta nuestros días, han pasado 70 años y un largo y fecundo recorrido de esta institución que os invito a conocer. En primer lugar recordamos los fundamentos bíblicos y teológicos de la caridad, luego presentamos el origen de la Institución Caritas Internacional y la de Caritas España, para pasar en los apartados siguientes a conocer el origen y desarrollo de Caritas en León: su estructura y organización interna, los programas y servicios que presta en la actualidad y los medios con que cuenta: medios humanos, el voluntariado, y medios económicos y sociales.
From 1945, when the then bishop of León, Dr. D. Luis Almarcha, laid the first stone of what would be later Caritas of León to the present day 70 years have gone, and this institution has followed a long and fruitful path, which I now invite you to know.
In the first place we remember the biblical and theological foundations of charity, then we present the origin of the institution Caritas Internationalis and that of Caritas España, and in the following sections we deal with the origin and development of Caritas in León—its structure and internal organisation, the programmes and services it currently provides and the means at its disposal: human means, volunteers, and economic and social interest groups.
