The article examines how the Manned Orbiting Laboratory, a manned spaceflight program run by the U.S. Air Force and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) from 1963 to 1969 that aims to spy on and thwart the Soviet Union in space, have sparked a new age of space warfare in the 20th and 21st centuries. The NRO documents, which was revealed in 2015, found that the space age consisted of two very distinct parts, one being run by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to explores the universe, and another run by the Department of Defense to militarize the universe.
