El presente texto muestra el origen y sentido moderno del nombre “epistemología” y de sus variantes “metodología de las ciencias”, “teoría del conocimiento científico” y “filosofía de las ciencias”. Asimismo, señala la imposibilidad de aplicar dicho término a la historia de la filosofía y, en particular, a la filosofía medieval y antigua.
This paper shows the origin and meaning of the modern name “epistemology”, and their variants “methodology of science”, “theory of scientific knowledge” and “philosophy of science”. It also shows the impossibility of applying this term to the history of philosophy, and, in particular, to the ancient and medieval philosophy.
