El agua ha sido un elemento importante en las relaciones entre árabes e israelíes, no sólo como causa de conflicto sino también por haber sido el factor central del único intento de cooperación entre los distintos estados de la cuenca del Jordán. Así, los recursos hidrológicos en esta región adquieren una clara dimensión política, económica y de seguridad, incluso militar. El artículo aborda estas dimensiones de la problemática del agua a lo largo de la historia del conflicto árabe-israelí.
Freshwater has been one of the key elements in Arab-Israeli relations; not only as a cause for conflict but also for its having been the main factor in the only attempt at cooperation among the different states in the Jordan basin. Thus, water resources in the region attain clear political, economic, and –even military– security dimensions. The article tackles these dimensions of the water issue along with the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
