Un tema prioritario en nuestra región es el impacto en múltiples niveles de la producción, comercio y consumo de drogas. Sus efectos se perciben en la salud, la seguridad, la violencia, el medio ambiente, la economía y la política de todos nuestros países. Se discutirán algunos conceptos médicos y legales necesarios para comprender el problema de las drogas en nuestra región, y se observará críticamente la situación del control de las drogas y sus efectos en nuestro contexto latino-centroamericano. Se privilegia una perspectiva humanista del tema, priorizando el bienestar integral, la paz, la salud y la vida de los seres humanos que se ven involucrados en la temática en estudio.
A priority theme for our region is the multi-leveled impact of drug production, commerce and consumption. Its effects can be seen in the fields of health, security, violence, environment, economy and politics in all of our countries. Some medical and legal concepts deemed necessary for understanding the drug problem in our region will be discussed. The situation of drug control and its effects on the Latin-American context will be analyzed from a critical stand-point. It will be favor ad the humanitarian perspective of the issue, giving priority to holistic well-being, peace, health and the lives of human beings who are involved with the subject matter.
