When a group of French journalists was formed around the March 1935 statute and the January 1936 Decree, which define journalism as a profession and set out the conditions under which it is exercised, a firm resolve emerged to maintain the distinction between journalism and the various other components of the communication sector, following the logic of the difference between the value of topical information to citizens and the commercial dimension of communication.
Le groupe des journalistes français est construit autour de l’application du statut de mars 1935 et du décret de janvier 1936 qui définissent l’activité professionnelle et créent les conditions du professionnalisme journalistique. Dans ce cadre, s’est affirmée une volonté très forte de distinguer le journalisme des diverses composantes du secteur de la communication dans une logique d’opposition entre la valeur citoyenne de l’information d’actualité et la dimension marchande de la communication.
