Este trabajo procura reconstruir la figura del famoso sofista Protágoras de Ab-dera a partir de del diálogo Teeteto de Platón. Luego de revisar y examinar detalladamente las notas esenciales que Platón atribuye a todo sofista, la presente investigación expone el pensamiento de Protágoras sugiriendo una lectura diferente a la de Platón, en el sentido de no asociar directamente la tesis del homo mensura ni a la tesis sensista (“saber es sensa-ción”) ni a la postura heraclítea del flujo permanente. Sobre la base del discurso socrático contenido en el diálogo Teeteto en defensa de Protágoras (166a-168c), proponemos una interpretación “racional” de la célebre doctrina protagórica: sostenemos que al comprender la frase del “hombre medida” ya no desde una óptica meramente sensible, se permite una reconstrucción más auténtica del personaje, tomando en cuenta, precisamente, su desem-peño en tanto que sofista y político. Este trabajo se presenta, por tanto, como un aporte a la discusión contemporánea sobre filósofos y sofistas al intentar rastrear el auténtico pensa-miento de Protágoras y al arrojar nuevas luces y proponer una lectura novedosa a partir de la obra platónica.
This paper attempts to rebuild the famous sophist Protagoras of Abdera from a reading of Plato’s dialogue Theaetetus. After reviewing and examining in detail the essential notes that Plato attributes to any sophist, this research exposes Protagoras’ thinking sug-gesting a different reading of Plato, in the sense of not directly associating the thesis of the homo mensura with the sensist thesis (‘knowledge is feeling’) and the permanent flow of the heraclitean position. Based on the Socratic discourse in defence of Protagoras (166a-168c), we propose a ‘rational’ interpretation of the Protagorean doctrine: we maintain that by understanding the phrase ‘man is measure’ not from a purely sensitive point of view, it allows a more authentic reconstruction of the character, considering precisely his perfor-mance as a sophist and politician. This paper presents, therefore, a contribution to the con-temporary discussion of philosophers and sophists by trying to capture the real thought of Protagoras and also, this article generates new lights and proposes a novel reading of Pro-tagoras from Plato’s work.
