La historia de la frontera amazónica entre Bolivia- Brasil ha provocado investigaciones en entorno a la economía pues, dicho territorio fue disputado por la inexactitud de sus fronteras y la riqueza gomera en medio de un escenario bélico a principios del siglo XX.
No obstante, por medio de este adelanto de investigación se propone una nueva visión respecto a los antecedentes de la llamada Guerra del Acre: un problema estructural del Estado boliviano, un país sin puerto. Se plantea que Bolivia no trató de integrar sus regiones para lograr controlar por completo su territorio sino, buscó definir sus fronteras de acuerdo con su necesidad económica de establecer un contacto directo con los mercados europeos. De esta manera, el destino de la frontera del Amazonas, antes de la explotación de la goma, estuvo vinculado a la historia del puerto de Cobija y la búsqueda de una salida efectiva al mar. Este trabajo pretende hacer un breve recuento de los emprendimientos del Estado boliviano en el Amazonas tomando en cuenta el contexto y el objetivo de cada uno ellos.
For the Pacific or the Atlantic. (Notes for the Bolivia-Brazil border history in the nineteenth century). The history of the Amazonian border between Bolivia and Brazil has led to researches around the economy field, because the territory was disputed due to the inaccuracy of its borders and the rubber wealth during a war scenario in the early twentieth century. However, this research advancement proposes a new vision regarding the history of the War of Acre: a structural problem of the Bolivian state, a country with no port. It argues that Bolivia did not try to integrate their regions to achieve full control of its territory but sought to define its borders according to its economic need for direct contact with European markets. Thus, the fate of the Amazon frontier before the exploitation of rubber, was linked to the history of the port of Cobija and finding in effect a way out to the sea. This work aims to make a brief account of the Bolivian state enterprises in the Amazon taking into account the context and purpose of each of them.
