A survey of the ethics of personal relations (the guanxi) during the decade when the economic reforms were introduced (1980-1990) indicates that their systematic development is leading to a neo-patrimonial transformation of the communist society, characterized by a high degree of corruption.
If the guanxi contribute to a new dynamic of social interrelations, more importantly, they prevent the institutionalization of the state and the creation of a real market economy.
L’observation de l’éthique des relations personnalisées (l’art des guanxi) pendant la décennie des réformes économiques (1980-1990) montre que leur usage, devenu systématique, a pour conséquence une transformation néopatrimoniale de la société communiste, caractérisée par une corruption généralisée.
Si les guanxi créent une dynamique de l’échange social, elles empêchent surtout, dans l’espace politique, l’institutionnalisation de l’État et, dans l’espace économique, la constitution d’une véritable économie de marché.
