Hoy asistimos a un inedito desafio historico y cultural: la imparable y acritica expansion de las Tecnologias de la Informacion y las Comunicaciones (TIC), en tanto estas amplian nuestras capacidades mentales y comunicativas a limites aun insospechados. Ante la radicalidad de su impacto, el desafio es empezar a vivir las TIC de una forma responsable, creativa y critica. Hasta ahora, en cambio, las hemos vivido deslumbrados ante sus luces y ciegos ante sus sombras. En el ensayo nos preguntamos tanto lo "¿que hace una nueva tecnologia?" como lo "¿que tambien deshace?". Buscamos entonces mediante una aproximacion preliminar contribuir al debate acerca de los impactos existenciales, cognitivos, comunicativos y sociales de las TIC.
Today we are witnessing an unprecedented historical and cultural challenge: the relentless and uncritical expansion of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), inasmuch as they extend our mental capabilities and communicative limits even unsuspected. Given the radical nature of its impact, the challenge is to start living ICT responsible, creatively and critically. Until now, however, we have lived dazzle with their lights and blind to their shadows. In the essay, we ask both "what does a new technology build?" as well "what does it also breaks?" Through a preliminary approach, we try to contribute to the debate about the existential, cognitive, communicative and social impacts of ICT.
