Employees of the prison system suffer from an ambiguous image bequeathed by history. Since the implementation of an August 6, 1958 order that granted them a special status, they have gradually acquired the bases necessary for the development of a modern and uninhibited administration. They are now in a position to face the challenges linked to their central role in the implementation of the prison policy and the definition of the meaning of the sentence.
Les personnels pénitentiaires pâtissent d’une image ambiguë léguée par l’histoire. Ils ont été dotés progressivement, depuis la mise en place du statut spécial par une ordonnance du 6 août 1958, des assises nécessaires à une administration moderne et décomplexée. Ils sont en situation de relever les défis considérables pesant sur eux quant à leur rôle central dans la mise en œuvre de la politique pénitentiaire et la détermination du sens de la peine.
