Young people and politics: a difficult relationship It is commonly stated that young people nowadays have no interest in politics, if indeed they are not blatantly hostile towards the subject. And it is true, as far as young people are concerned, and in the opinion of Mr. Biarnés, that we have good reason to be concerned about the democratic health of our societies. A few examples: young people, albeit not only them, participate little in electoral processes and even less so in party organisations. Their opinions towards and about the res publica and its protagonists, reflected in these polls and studies, range from mistrust to outright rejection, all against a backdrop of widespread cynicism. The presence of citizens below the age of 30 in public posts is not even token. This article attempts to present the whys and the wherefores of what is a difficult relationship between young people and politics in advanced societies.
