Los cuatro autores que han llevado El Quijote al cine ha tomado diferentes caminos al hacer la adaptación. En general no se ha seguido el libro escrito por Cervantes con fidelidad sino que se trata de adaptaciones muy libres exceptuando la primera de ellas. La estructura narrativa y la caracterización de los personajes es una creación particular de cada autor. Sin embargo el espíritu cervantino y el espíritu de D. Quijote se mantienen en todas las obras.

The four filmmakers who have brought El Quijote to the cinema have taken different ways doing the adaptation. Generally the book written by Cervantes has not been follow with fidelity. The sequence of events and the description of characters is a creation of each author. Even though the spirit of Cervantes and D. Quijote is always present. The eternal dream of utopia justice and sarcasm about the fantasy of the man of the Mancha are invariables as a frame to every adaptation.
