El presente trabajo intenta poner de relieve la multiplicidad de lecturas y modalidades de interpretación de las Sagradas Escrituras de las que los actores del proceso revolucionario inglés se sirvieron en la búsqueda de una legitimación absoluta de su accionar políticoreligioso.
La radical diversidad de miras y objetivos que subyacían bajo el accionar de los distintos grupos, pone en evidencia la marcada intencionalidad política que las instancias de apelación a las Escrituras implicaban. Actores tan heterogéneos como la nobleza adicta a la corona, levellers y diggers, quintomonárquicos y absolutistas, solo podían encontrar una raíz común en el hecho de ser todos ellos �en mayor o menor medida- descendientes de la Reforma y súbditos del anglicanismo. Pero es precisamente en esos dos pilares donde habremos de encontrar los elementos fundamentales para explicar ciertos matices y tendencias de la revolución.
The present paper aims to bring to light the multiplicity of readings and modalities of interpretation of the Holy Scriptures that participants in the English Revolution made use of in their quest for absolute legitimization of their political and religious actions. The radical diversity in perspectives and objectives that underlay the actions of the different groups evidences the clear political intention that their appeal to the Scriptures implied. Actors as diverse as the monarchist nobility, the Levellers and Diggers, the Fifth Monarchists and the absolutists, could only find a common root in the fact that they were all �in different degrees- the offspring of the Reformation, and subjects of Anglicanism. However, it is precisely in these two pillars where we shall encounter the main elements to explain certain features and tendencies of the Revolution.
