The article examines the impact of artificial intelligence on the work of communication professionals in Argentina, drawing on a qualitative approach based on 32 interviews conducted in 2025 with institutional communication professionals-responsible for internal communication, external communication, and institutional relations areas-working in the public, private, and third sectors. From a theoretical framework that brings together informational capitalism, acceleration, automation, and the entrepreneurial ethos, the text introduces the notion of self-optimization to account for the growing demand for updating, self-training, and individual responsibility for aspects that were previously regulated collectively. The findings show that AI intensifies work rhythms, reduces production times, and shifts value toward supervisory, interpretive, and validation functions, while weakening strategic deliberation. Critical appropriations also emerge, aimed at preserving the human dimension of communication as an undelegable domain. Taken together, the article argues that the incorporation of AI does not entail a straightforward substitution of communication work, but rather a complex reconfiguration of its knowledge, times, identities, and margins of autonomy.
