Although it remains difficult to fully assess the broad significance of this judgment, there is no doubt that it is one of the most important rulings issued by the CJEU. Beyond its constitutional scope, this paper aims to analyze the decision from a private international law perspective, contextualizing it within the progressive developments introduced by the CJEU itself in recent years, which are paving the way toward the construction of a European personal status linked to European citizenship.
