The present article analyzes the advisory opinion issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) regarding the right to care, its content and its main characteristics. In this context, it highlights the close relationship between care-related activities and the right to health, insofar as the former enable its effective realization. The three dimensions of this right (receiving care, providing care, and self-care) are examined, as well as their impact on the comprehensive protection of the person, with particular attention to their manifestations in vulnerable groups. In this light, the notion of a “care agreement” emerges, understood as the shared societal responsibility to ensure the effective exercise of this right.
