Esta investigación fue establecida con la ayuda de los productores maiceros del sector de Ventanas, ciudad denominada hasta la actualidad la capital maicera, la cual está ubicada en la provincia de Los Ríos Ecuador. El objetivo de este trabajo fue el de alguna manera describir la situación de los agricultores en el marco social, económico y ambiental, para determinar la sustentabilidad de los sistemas de producción que manejan. para lo cual se tomó una muestra de 45 agricultores, y mediante encuesta, la cual incluía preguntas relacionadas al objetivo perseguido, obtener la información que nos permita la caracterización de estos productores. Los resultados materializados nos indican las dificultades que tiene este gremio para poder subsistir, especialmente el pequeño productor, por su alta dependencia a la siembra de esta gramínea y poder mantener su núcleo familiar. Solo un pequeño porcentaje de familias tienen dentro de sus actividades agrícolas la siembra de otros cultivos y la venta de animales para obtener ingresos adicionales. Añadidos a otros problemas como el difícil acceso a los servicios básicos, educación y tecnología que dificultan el progreso de este sector agrícola. Los resultados fueron sistematizados por método analítico, descriptivo/observación.
This research was established with the help of corn producers from the Ventanas sector, a city known until now as the corn capital, which is located in the province of Los Ríos, Ecuador. The objective of this work was to somehow describe the situation of farmers in the social, economic and environmental framework, to determine the sustainability of the production systems they manage. For which a sample of 40 farmers was taken, and through a survey, which included questions related to the objective pursued, obtain the information that allows us to characterize these producers. The materialized results indicate the difficulties that this union has to survive, especially the small producer, due to its high dependence on the sowing of this grass and being able to maintain its family nucleus. Only a small percentage of families have in their agricultural activities the planting of other crops and the sale of animals to obtain additional income. Added to other problems such as difficult access to basic services, education and technology that hinder the progress of this agricultural sector. The results were systematized by analytical, descriptive / observation method.
