The latest edition of the Bienal of San Pablo wrotean original chapter in the history of censorship againstart. A work of art by the argentine artist RobertoJacoby was censored by the electoral court. It isargued here that the judicial measure revealed a num-ber of current tensions between art and politics, aswell as the difficult relationship existing betweenartistic institutions and economic power nowadays.Jacoby’s work showed two large photographies ofthe main candidates ruling for Brazil`s presidencywhile their campaign was going on. This article explo-res the political and aesthetical implications of theepisode, while analyzing the motivations of the artist. Also, it presents some clues to understand his workphilosophically, that go far beyond the explicit sub-ject-matter of the images his exhibited. Jacoby’s work,it is argued here, tried do defend a conceptualist pro-gram for the arts, and this important aspect of hiswork was not perceived in the debate it arousesduring the Biennal. Keywords: aesthetics; politics; censorship
