The reactive nature and use of criminal sanctions have been the most widely accepted approaches to tackling crime, relegating the family to a secondary role, despite the fact that it is a primary tool of criminal policy that should be given greater prominence in prevention efforts, given its usefulness in the construction of social roles. Numerous studies have demonstrated its substantive role in correcting values; however, its real importance and value in criminal policy programs are not always understood. Tools such as SAVRY and SAPROF-YV have demonstrated their potential in identifying risks and behavioral readjustment in children and adolescents, supporting the important role of the family in behavioral guidance. Through a qualitative and quantitative approach and an explanatory-descriptive scope, with a legal-doctrinal methodology, the study demonstrates the role of the family as the primary entity of social control in confronting crime, as well as the need to consider it in the treatment of deviant behavior. The research concludes that, in a society that plans to efficiently formalize a real criminal policy, it must be based on scientific tools to achieve this and consider, in an essential way, the family group, thereby ensuring positive effects in the correction of undesirable behaviors.
