Currently, the inclusion of persons with disabilities represents one of the major challenges for higher education institutions (HEIs) in Chile. Within this context, this study addresses the labor inclusion of faculty members with hearing impairments in Chilean HEIs. Its objective is to understand how faculty members with hearing impairments perceive their participation in the academic setting. The guiding research question of this study is: How do faculty members with hearing impairments perceive their labor inclusion in HEIs? The working hypothesis is that, although there have been legal advances at the national level and within institutions themselves, barriers still exist that limit effective inclusion. This study adopts an interpretive qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews with thirty faculty members with hearing impairments who currently work or have worked in HEIs over the past five years. The results reveal a gap between inclusive policies at the national level and institutional practices, underscoring the need to strengthen university policies on inclusion.
