The first twenty-five years of the twenty-first century bear wit-ness to a realignment of the international economic and political system. This situation is characterized by the apparent decline of the West, the strategic withdrawal of the United States toward the American continent, and the resurgence of China and Russia as world powers. This process shifts the axis of power from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, within a context of tensions that undermine the liberal and unipolar internation-al order. The Latin American region, endowed with strategic natural re-sources and an abundant labor force, risks becoming entangled in a great geopolitical game among major powers. The relationship between Latin America and Russia — histori-cally mediated through the West — is thus acquiring renewed rel-evance. In this scenario, Mexico emerges as a pivotal actor in the reconfiguration of the international system. This paper aims to ana-lyze, from a political economy perspective, the implications for Mex-ico of the trans-pacific connection between Latin America and Russia.
