This study explores the contribution of generalized means (GMs) to the analysis of poverty and inequality, given their normative flexibility and their ability to express welfare in monetary units. After reviewing their theoretical foundations and axiomatic properties, an empirical exer-cise is developed using data from the 2024 enigh survey on total current per capita income, distinguishing between scenarios with and without transfers from social programs. The GMs are estimated for different values of the α parameter, using corrections based on winsorization and Pareto smoothing. The results show that transfers increase the income of the ge-neral population by approximately 4.0 % (arithmetic mean), primarily be-nefiting lower-income groups, although without substantially modifying the severe asymmetries in the distributive structure. It is confirmed that GMs constitute a rigorous and accessible method for evaluating distributi-ve changes and supporting the design of policies aimed at equity.
