In the outsourcing of migration management, faith-based organizations (FBOs) play a fundamental role in receiving and hosting vulnerable migrants. The objective is to understand the motivations for solidarity action and what occurs when encountering vulnerable migrant otherness, from the perspective of religious, volunteers and staff members of these FBO. From a theoretical reflection, ethnographic observation and in-depth interviews conducted in Santiago, Chile, Iquique and Arica (2022-2024), the study found that religious and rights-based narratives converge among actors who wield public, social and cultural influence, countering social and political xenophobia by presenting a human face and serving as a bridge to Chilean society. As a result, the study presents a form of solidarity with otherness based on encounter, understanding and gratitude, from the receiver’s point of view, a topic scarcely worked in Latin America.
