The current debate on natural kinds is characterized by the high number of proposals, which are frequently incompatible among themselves. In this context, a minimum consensus concerning natural kinds has not yet been reached, while skepticism about the topic is increasing. Here it is proposed that, in the background of these issues, there is a problematic conceptual framework shared by all proposals. Thus, the separation between the real and the conventional is explicitly or implicitly assumed. Considering these problems, an alternative framework that overcomes such problems is suggested, through the concept of scientific kind.
