The excavation and subsequent construction of the Tablada dock in the port of Seville would be incomprehensible without the erection of a drawbridge. Despite being the first bascule bridge in Spain, the Alfonso XIII drawbridge has received scant attention in historiography. With this scholarly publication, we aim to fill a small gap that only the local press has been able to exploit, highlighting both its long history of service and its problems, as well as its current state of disrepair. Ultimately, this work seeks to emphasize the value of an exceptional piece of the industrial heritage of the city and province of Seville, precisely on the centenary of its inauguration.
