The continuity of economic activities in small farms in the primary sector is essential for the sustainability of the rural environment, and generational renewal is key in this process. This study offers an analysis of the origin of the problem, the current situation and future perspectives, studying a specific case: wine-growing activity in Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain). The analysis was carried out by collecting information through interviews with wine growers and wineries and participating in the harvest, with the aim of understanding actual agricultural practices and evaluating the added value generated. In addition, an exhaustive review of the existing literature was carried out. The results highlight the added value that the territory can provide as a possible solution to increase the value and price of the product, impacting the profitability of small farms, which could encourage the interest of new generations in the sector. Likewise, the importance of wine tourism is highlighted as a fundamental element and reflects on the need to preserve this agricultural model, whose impact is crucial for the sustainability of exporting SMEs.
