Immigration turned out Donald Trump’s base and was neck and neck with inflation in pushing swing voters to cast their ballots for him. However, because the crisis-fueled mass migration shows little sign of abating, it is likely to continue dividing the United States and, by extension, hindering its capacity for global leadership. The U.S. has it in its own interest to do more, alongside its allies, to disempower the region’s Mafias and Mafia states and the illegal economies on which they rely. If they don’t, mass forced migration will continue, and the U.S. will face the consequences.
