Donald Trump’s second presidency seems destined to focus more attention on Latin America than any U.S. administration in perhaps 30 years as his top domestic priorities of cracking down on unauthorized immigration, stopping the smuggling of fentanyl and other drugs, and reducing the influx of Chinese goods into the United States all depend heavily on policy toward the region.
The biggest question is whether Trump comes to see Latin America as not just a source of the United States’ biggest problems but also a potential solution to them.
