Artificial intelligence generates both fascination and concern in the library and information world. This article discusses trialing several artificial intelligence tools in which their usefulness in cataloguing practices was assessed. The results showed that, although artificial intelligence is far from questioning the need for human intervention, it can nonetheless facilitate this intervention. Based on practical tests to analyze records, suggest subject headings and translate controlled vocabulary, the study highlights the current strengths and limitations of this technology, as well as the human and technical challenges connected to its use. This exercise served as a reminder of the importance of using professional human judgme
