The article reconstructs the formation and rise of the Nueva Imagen publishing house in Mexico between 1976 and 1983. Founded by Guillermo Schavelzon and Sealtiel Alatriste, it published more than two hundred titles in seven years, with some of its commercial successes reaching over ten reprints. Alongside its market achievements, Nueva Imagen implemented a co-publishing policy with local academic institutions, forged connections with South American exile cultural groups, published their works, and supported the relaunch of some of their magazines. How was this brief yet vivid editorial chapter possible? To answer this question, the article examines Schavelzon's trajectory in Mexico and explores the dual character—between the market and intellectual formations—that Nueva Imagen adopted over the course of its publishing history. The article argues that Schavelzon's Mexican chapter preserved and enhanced a key trait of his Argentine editorial background: the cultural connection with emerging intellectual groups, mediated through commercial channels. By analyzing this singular editorial episode, the article explores the editorial dimensions of a moment of hegemonic reorganization and, at the same time, recovers little-known connections within the South American exile community in Mexico.
