Over the last 50 years, the economic agendas of U.S. presidential administrations from both parties, have recognized the importance of promoting overall macro-economic stability. Other governments around the world have sought to emulate the United States in this regard, to their lasting benefit. The Donald Trump approach, in contrast, weaponizes uncertainty. But uncertainty is a difficult weapon to control, and it will backfire on whoever wields it too widely.
