El afianzamiento de los Estados Unidos como potencia regional fue un proceso relativamente rápido y tuvo dos ejes fundamentales: la expansión hacia el oeste y la hegemonía en el área geopolítica del Golfo de México y el Caribe. Este artículo describe y analiza este proceso, desde una perspectiva global, en el marco cronológico que va desde sus inicios hasta su consolidación a finales de la década de los sesenta del siglo XIX.
The consolidation of the United States as a regional power was a relatively rapid process and had two fundamental axes: westward expansion and hegemony in the geopolitical area of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. This article describes and analyzes this process, from a global perspective, in the chronological framework that goes from its beginnings to its consolidation at the end of the sixties of the nineteenth century.
