Estados Unidos
Most guns in Mexico’s drug war—that are confiscated and traced—come from the United States. The flow of guns from the United States into Mexico is the result of loose u.s. gun laws. Mexico’s weaker institutions have made it more difficult to control the organized crime that supplies u.s. drug demand and is empowered by cheap access to firearms. There are policies that could significantly reduce the flow of guns into Mexico and their lethality, but require stronger rule of law in Mexico, and better u.s.-Mexico cooperation.
