In recent decades, more Latin American countries have become aware of the political importance of their diasporas. Despite the fact that Mexico has the second largest diaspora in the world, the government’s relationship with its migrants is precarious when compared to that of other Latin American countries.
The Mexican diaspora in the United States could intercede in the political relations with that country. Through lobbying and electoral blocs, it could be a powerful ally of the Mexican government in influencing U.S public policy.
