Exploration of Peruvian narrative during the 1980’s. This period, a “lost decade” according to many social analysts, was when several important literary pieces brewed in terms of their formal completion, and was where the projection of future works took place. Due to the onset of armed actions of the subversive movement Shining Path (known in Spanish as sl) —soon followed by Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (known in Spanish as mrta)—, the novel narrative writers followed either of these paths: on the one side, there were those who shaped their narrative creations based on the landscape’s prevailing violent acts, from a testimonial and Andean perspective to a large extent. On the other, there were those who recreated their urban universe and conceived stories and characters with techniques and resources from the Western poetic tradition. In this last field it is noteworthy mentioning a renewed occurrence of women-written narrative.
