La vegetariana (2007), de Han Kang que recibió el novel de literatura en 2024 convirtiéndose en la mujer más joven en recibirlo, narra la historia de una mujer surcoreana que, al despertar de un sueño perturbador, decide dejar de comer carne, rompiendo con las normas familiares y sociales que regulan su vida. Esa elección aparentemente sencilla desata una serie de conflictos con su esposo, sus padres y su entorno, quienes reaccionan con violencia y control ante su deseo de autonomía. La novela se organiza en tres partes, narradas desde distintas perspectivas, explora la represión del cuerpo femenino, la alienación en la sociedad contemporánea y la posibilidad de resistencia a través de la renuncia y la transformación corporal. Es un relato inquietante que entrelaza violencia, deseo y libertad en un contexto de profundas tensiones culturales y patriarcales.
The Vegetarian (2007), by Han Kang, who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2024, becoming the youngest woman to do so, tells the story of a South Korean woman who, upon awakening from a disturbing dream, decides to stop eating meat, breaking with the familial and social norms that regulate her life. This seemingly simple choice unleashes a series of conflicts with her husband, her parents, and her surroundings, who react violently and controllingly to her desire for autonomy. The novel, organized into three parts, narrated from different perspectives, explores the repression of the female body, alienation in contemporary society, and the possibility of resistance through renunciation and bodily transformation. It is a disturbing tale that intertwines violence, desire, and freedom in the context of deep cultural and patriarchal tensions
