Tras resaltar la importancia del derecho humano al agua, el presente trabajo recoge las referencias a él que ha hecho el Santo Padre en la Carta Encíclica Laudato Si’. Constata luego la existencia de problemas graves ante la actividad de diversos sectores, como el extractivo, obras públicas y agroalimentario, para revisar a continuación otros vinculados con la gobernanza global del agua, como las privatizaciones y la existencia de oligopolios. Concluye con unas reflexiones donde se destacan la oportunidad y vigencia del análisis llevado a cabo por el Papa Francisco junto a la creciente preocupación ante los problemas señalados y la necesidad de reflexionar sobre ellos, y la de llevar a cabo concretas acciones para superarlos.
After pointing out the relevance of the human right to water and sanitation, the present paper records the references to this subject made by the Pope in the Encyclical Letter Laudato Si’. Afterwards, we observe the existence of serious problems in the light of the activity of different sectors, such as the extractive industries, public works, and the agri-food one and then reviews others related to the global governance of water, as in the case of privatizations and the existence of oligopolies. The study concludes by making some comments about the appropriate time and validity of the analysis carried out by Pope Francisco, together with the rising concern on the identified issues as well as the need to think over them and undertake definite steps to overcome them.
