En este trabajo se analiza el concepto del silencio en la obra de Levinas, con el fin de dar una nueva perspectiva a la fundamental distinción entre dire y dit y de vincular las reflexiones levinasianas sobre el lenguaje con su fenomenología de la alteridad y su difícil paso a lo político. Para ello, me centro en ofrecer una interpretación de los distintos silencios que se pueden encontrar en la obra del filósofo francés, subrayando el ambivalente estatuto que tiene en ella. Después, analizo detenidamente el texto inédito hasta hace unos años “Parole et Silence”. Insisto ahí en la relación maestro-estudiante y en la escucha. Finalmente, vinculo este texto con “La réalité et son ombre”, para ver tanto la veta ética de la literatura como la posibilidad de extender la figura del crítico que aparece en ese ensayo a una dimensión más general de la f ilosofía levinasiana.
This paper analyzes the concept of silence in Levinas’s work, with the aim of offering a new perspective on the fundamental distinction between dire and dit, and of linking Levinasian reflections on language with his phenomenology of alterity and its difficult transition to the political. To this end, I focus on providing an interpretation of the different forms of silence that can be found in the French philosopher’s writings, emphasizing their ambivalent status. I then examine in detail the text “Parole et Silence”, unpublished until a few years ago, with particular attention to the teacherstudent relationship and to listening. Finally, I connect this text with “La réalité et son ombre”, in order to highlight both the ethical vein of literature and the possibility of extending the figure of the critic that appears in that essay to a more general dimension of Levinas’s philosophy
