Our research aims to examine the efforts of Chinese-descent students to manage their linguistic background in light of newly acquired socio-linguistic experiences in Greek schools. Through semi-structured interviews and non-participatory observations, we collected data from 29 students of Chinese origin across 12 public primary schools. Data collection and analysis focused on their language repertoires, their acculturation efforts, and the challenges associated with maintaining their language capital. Our results highlight the need to design an educational policy with an intercultural perspective that builds on the multilingual background of students with migrant histories and prepares them to overcome the traditionally reinforced boundaries between their cultures and community languages and the majority population and prevailing language.
