This research addresses the relevance of religious archives in the field of Archival Science, highlighting their importance for the preservation of the historical and documentary memory of religious institutions. The theme is justified by the gap in academic production on ecclesiastical archives in Brazil. The general objective of this research was to identify the types of documents originating from the sacraments of the Catholic Church, based on qualitative and exploratory, descriptive and pure research. The methodologies used were bibliographical survey, documentary analysis, field research and complemented by participatory research. The main results showed several documents specific to the sacraments of the Catholic Church. These documents reflect not only religious aspects, but also a profound historical and social value, evidencing the relationship between ecclesiastical practices and society. The work highlights the efficient importance of ensuring the preservation and accessibility of these collections, contributing both to the institutional strengthening of the Church and to historical and cultural research. The research also highlights the contribution of the theme to expanding the field of studies in Archival Science, indicating potential areas for future investigations, as well as contributing to archivists who come to work in this field.
A presente pesquisa aborda a relevância dos arquivos religiosos no campo da Arquivologia, destacando sua importância para a preservação da memória histórica e documental das instituições religiosas. O tema é justificado pela lacuna existente na produção acadêmica sobre arquivos eclesiásticos no Brasil. O objetivo geral desta pesquisa foi identificar os tipos documentais procedentes dos sacramentos da Igreja Católica, a partir de uma pesquisa qualitativa,exploratóriaedescritiva. Foram utilizadas as metodologias de levantamento bibliográfico, análise documental, pesquisa de campo e complementada pela pesquisa participativa. Os principais resultados evidenciaram diversos documentos específicos aos sacramentos da Igreja Católica. Esses documentos refletem nãoapenas os aspectos religiosos, mas também um profundo valor histórico e social, evidenciando a relação entre práticas eclesiásticas e a sociedade. O trabalho ressalta a relevância deassegurar a preservação e acessibilidade desses acervos, contribuindo tanto para o fortalecimento institucional da Igreja quanto para a pesquisa histórica e cultural. A pesquisa também destaca a contribuição do tema para ampliar o campo de estudos da Arquivologia, indicando potenciais áreas para investigações futuras, bem comocontribuir com os arquivistas que venham atuar neste campo.
