El presente artículo es una síntesis de los principales aspectos de la organización y las instituciones políticas de los pueblos de habla náhuatl durante el Posclásico Tardío (1200-1521) en el Altiplano Central de México. Por ello, se pretende esbozar los rasgos fundamentales para dar un panorama completo, crítico y actualizado de los actuales conocimientos sobre el tema, y no tratar detalladamente todas las instituciones políticas y administrativas. He privilegiado mi propia experiencia de análisis de las fuentes antes que las opiniones más usuales o de moda. En todo caso, debe entenderse que hay una larga trayectoria de investigación y debate académico sobre estos asuntos, los cuales, dado el carácter de este trabajo, sólo quedan sobreentendidos. Para mayor claridad, y para quien desee profundizar en el tema, al final se agregan un breve glosario y una bibliografía mínima.
This article is a summary of the main aspects of the political organization and institutions of the Nahuatl-speaking peoples during the Late Postclassic (1200-1521) in the Central Highlands of Mexico. Therefore, the aim is to outline the fundamental features to provide a complete, critical, and up-to-date overview of current knowledge on the subject, rather than to address all political and administrative institutions in detail. I have prioritized my own experience in analyzing the sources rather than the most common or fashionable opinions. In any case, it should be understood that there is a long history of academic research and debate on these matters, which, given the nature of this work, are only implied. For greater clarity, and for those who wish to delve deeper into the subject, a brief glossary and a minimal bibliography are included at the end.
